The deI ceased was u:> years ol aye, und was born in Ballarat, Victoria, coming to New Zealand with his parents ut an early ago. They settled on Hie West Coast in ti.e digging days. Latei ihe iamily moved to Lytteiton, where tln-.s kept the Lytteiton Hotel lor about ::■■ years. Mr Moytiihan was a membei of the Armed Constabulary in the | early days, and alter leaving uie ser- | vjc L . was licensee for a .-hurl lime ol Barrett's Hotel in Wellington. Ho set , tied in Shannon 30 years ago, becoming the proprietor ol the Club Hotel and has resided here ever .since. Both he and Mrs Moynihan, who orej deceased her husband a year ago oil Sunday, earned the respect and goodf will of the community, and were held in very general esteem. Not only were I they generous in all public matters, j but their kindly natures found exj pression in mauj deeds of benevolence peilurmed quietly and without (parade. Mr Moynihan was always a I supporter of sport, and in more way:: i than one Shannon loses by his deatn ,' a worthy and respected citizen. lie j leave.- a sister, Mis Robinson, of Wellington, and three .suns, Messrs. Wili liam, Thomas and Rewi Moynihan, the two latter being the well known footballers. To them the sympathy oi all will go out. in their great loss. As a mark of respect the public meeting culled fur to-night has been i postponed until a later dale.
