COUNTY BY-LAWS.

CONTROL OF HEAVY TRAFFIC IN WINTER. REVISION TO BE PUSHED ON. The County Chairman, Mr Monk, mentioned at Saturday's meeting ol the Horowhevin County Council that it was hopeu -j have a revision ol the county by-laws in ihe near future, in answer to Cr. Cr. Harkness said they should give ample notice to the lorries.

The Chairman said they were required to advertise the new by-laws and give the noiice necessary by Statute.

Cr. Broadbeit said ii seemed to him they had been a long time over the. matter. They should have by-laws that would stand the test of law and cope with the heavy traffic.

The Chairman: You cannot drive the heavy traffic oft the roads. Cr. Broadbelt said they did not wain i" do that, but to gel compensation for damage done. He heard of one lorry driver who said that it WOUld pay him 10 pay the Council L'lno a. year to run on the roads provided ihey were in good order. The Chairman: We want to control the heavy traffic, ma to expel it. Cr. Ryder: 'ihe Government is ihe only one who can expel it by reducing railway freights.
