OTAKI 'S WATER SUPPLY.

Sir, —Being a visitor to Otaki aud ou various occasions pass through the Waitohu road, I have watched the system of water supply a's now being put through, and after many years in engi- j neoring practice it has been of interest to nte going over the ground where the ' pipe line is being laid. I particularly j notice the 'difficulties, which, in my opinion, have somewhat entered into the work in hand. I read in your paper the . councillors' remarks re tho 5s per day man. Be that as it may, but I, like other people, consider the tiresome nature of the work —such as rock and boulders to contend with, also weather conditions are not to be envied, and it brings one to ask what do some of the councillors know about, it? I am thinking the men behind the pick I and shovel would much appreciate their presence doing the same work, wet or fine. I also note remarks about Pelton wheels for power purposes. Those romarks arc. absurd. Surely tho water supply should be for what it is intended; what is the use of turning water on for individual purposes as suggested. In conclusion permit me to say one word: I have nothing in common with this project, and after due thought and observations I pass an opinion. The head men in charge have done well, and I feel sure the men on the work are under able men. and honestly doing their best to further the interest? of the ratepayers of your Borough.—l am, etc., ENGINEER.
