Miss Wadsworth has been appointed teacher at the Manakau school in place of Miss Malcolm, resigned. Mr Baughen, of the Otaki Post Office staff, resumed duties on Wednesday alter a well-earned holiday. Mr Robt. Can it, who has been proprietor of the Jubilee Hotel for some time, has sold his interests to Mr Marshall, of Rakaia. Mr F. G. Davies, who has been attending a conference of engineers at Auckland, returned home last evening, after spending a profitable and pleasant time. Mr Davies, during his stay in the north, visited Rotorua and other places of interest. Mr W. Subritzky, who has been connected with the Otaki Post Office staff for the past IS months, left to-day for Kaitaih (North Auckland). During his stay in Otaki Mr Subritzky has proved very popular and leaves behind many friends. As a footballer he was in the front rank and will be missed by his old club. It is with the deepest feelings of sorrow we record the death of Mr George Edward Thomas, of the “Levin Chronicle’’ literary staff', which occurred yesterday morning, after a brief attack of pneumonia, following upon a chill taken at the beginning of lasi week. He had been confined to his room since Friday, and though it was known that he was seriously ill. the end was not expected so suddenly. The many friends of*Mrs McHardie, late of Otaki, will regret to learn that she has suffered a further sad bereavement by the death of her son, Clarence. Deceased had been riding a cycle and unexpectedly came to a water-race just outside the town of Ashburton. He was thrown off hi.- machine, and the im- j pact broke his nose. He lay stunned in about eighteen inches of water, and was found dead in the morning by a carrier. Deceased was transferred from Wanganui three weeks ago, and was to have been married nex't Tuesday. Mr L. R. Freeman, of Foxton, has been offered and has accepted the managership of the Albert Hotel, Auckland. Mr Freeman was for several years licensee of Whyte’s Hotel, which he conducted with marked ability. Since he sold out, Mr Freeman was appointed secretary of the Foxton Racing Club, a position he has filled with a thoroughness that has won him high encomiums from the club, visiting owner- and the public. He ha.- also held the position of organising secretary for the Licensed Victuallers’ Association, in four electorates, viz., Manawatu, Palmerston N.. Rangitikei and Oroua. Mr Freeman has also taken a keen interest in all public affairs and was for a time a member of the Borough Council. In social and musical circles Mrs Freeman will also be greatly missed as she has been a ; willing helper at all public entertain- \ nienrs and her vocal talents have had a 1 great acquisition.
