Take the measurement Ot' the girth ! where it is smallest (close—behind the i shouhler) ami the length of the animal from the front of the shouhler to the junction of the tail. Multiply the square of girth in feet and inches by-the length in feet, and multiply the product by .23, .21, .2(1, .28. or .30, according to the fatness of the animal, and the result will give the weight in imperial stones. For (instance, it' the girth of the animal in moderate condition be <3ft., (he length sft. f>in.. then i! x 0 equals 30 x 5$ equals 10S x2l equals -17.05 stones. The foregoing is the earc-ass weight of the animal. The weight of the carcass would be about ij of the live weight for cattle, for sheep, from -1 to I; and for a pigfrom 1 to I of the'live weight.
