CONDUCTOR'S PROMPT ACTION. AVERT.-. TRAMWAY DISASTER, Auckland. Last Night. Prompt action by a tramway conductor, Mr J. Dempsey, averted what might have been a serious accident this evening. A tram on Upper Queen Street collided with another and then commenced to run down hill, the motorman having been temporarily incapacitated. BATHER'S SPINE INJURED. Gisborne, Feb. 12. I Harry Mclntyre, married, a postal employee, received spinal injuries while surfing yesterdaj', and lost consciousness in the water. He was artificially restored to consciousness, but the spinal injuries necessitated his removal to the hospital, whope he lies in a serious condition.
WOMAN’S SUDDEN DEATH. 1 Waipukurau, Feb. 12. Mrs Mary Elizabeth Wood, aged 31 years, wife of -,t well-known resident, dropped dead at 6 p.m. on Saturday. At the inquest on Sunday a verdict was returned of death from heart failure. Deceased leaves five children, * - - . .... . ...
