BIG BUTTERFAT FIGURES

LARGE INCREASE OVER LAST YEAR. Wellington, February 8. The figures of the Dairy Division of the Agricultural Department show that the salted butter graded for January, 1923, was 177,199 cwt, and unsalted 71.8ewt, compared with 13,106 cwt for January of last year, an increase of 36.41 per cent. For the six months ended January, 1923, the respective quantities were 841,861 cwt and 55,701 cwt, compared with 633,991 cwt, an increase ol 41.57 per cent.

Cheese graded for January, 1923, comprised: White 141,401 cwt, coloured 75,965 cwt, compared with 202,693 cwt for" January, 1922, an increase of 7.23 per cent. The totals for the six months ended January,-1923, were: White 426,bS7cwt, coloured 235.923 cwt, compared with 716,558 cwt, a decrease of 7.19 per cent. Converting, these figures into their butterfat equivalent, there is an increase oi 24,8ri jier cent in the butterfat production tor the six months as compared with the corresponding period of 192-1-22. The -Department has received information to the effect that Mr J. A. Buddick, Daily and - Cold Storage Commissioner lor Canada, will ' arrive in New Zealand by the Niagara on lite 16th irist. Mr Ruddick was Dairy Coram igsioner in-A"ew Zealand for the period during JB9B to 1900.
