HOODED MONSTER.
ADVENTURES OB HUNTING PARTY. TALL STORIES FROM VAAL RIVER, Reports of the presence of an amphibitous monster in the Yaal river have disturbed the wonted tranquility of Waldeck’s Plant. It is described by'* those who profess to have seen it as a hsoded python, and tall stories are told of its size and characteristics. The other day two of the most adventurous spirits of the place set out on a small craft in order to administer the eoui) de .grace to the unwelcome visitant. They arrived at the scene, and it is said confronted the intruder, and in the presence of a small but excited body of spectators, a crack losal marksman took deadly aim.
But to the consternation of all there was no outward indication of the victim making his exit. On the contrary he assumed a more militant attitude than ever and evinced a lively disposition to get at close quarters with the sportsmen, with the result that a frantic rush was made by them for the nearest bank.
There have been many stories of the re-appearance of the reptile, which is described as ISJ feet long and six to nine inches in girth, with chocolatceoloured body, having fancy markings, while a silvery streak runs from chin to tail on the under side, but the head is reputed to be the most formidable and terrifying feature of the stranger. All the disasters that have been experienced for a decade ore attributed to the enemy, who i.- said to devour stock wholesale. A properly organised expedition is being equipped to deal c-n masse with the troublesome marauder the first time conditions and circumstances are deemed propitious.
