OTAKI HALF-HOLIDAY.

A large and representative meeting of Otaki business men was held on Monday evening, practically every trade in the town being represented. Mr Cockrell was voted to the chair and explained the object of the meeting. He stated that the time for fixing the day for the weekly hail-holiday was drawing near and that if any alteration was desired a move must be raa ie at once After a general discussion the meeting unanimously resolved that “In the interest or Otaki it is desirable that the day of the half-holiday be altered to V'e'lne*d'*r. and rhi- meeting pledges ; itself to do all in its power to bring : this about. An executive committee was formed. : consisting of Mr E. Irvine. Mr Siever.-

A vote of thanks to tier chair brought a very -use- ‘fid meeting -to a close. ( The half-holiday question for O'ah- - a big one. and one that should receive every consideration by all. At the lasi poll .Saturday was decided upon -oy a rui>■’as tm i majority, but business people and others found that the change was not in the interests of the town and district, and many now wish to revert' to Wednesday. It is hoped that at the coming poll residents will exercise,their right to vote.
