. JANUARY MEIiTLNG. The first meeting in the new year was held on Saturday. Cr. G. A. Monk presided: Crs. S.- A. Broadbelt, A. R. Knox, H. G. Bryant, F. 3. ByUer, .). R. Whyie, H. Barber, C. J. Harkness and J. McLeavey. CORRESPONDENCE, Messrs. Seifert Flaxdressiug Co., Lid., stated they intended applying for a re-valuation of their land, and inquired if the. whole of the llorowhenua country had been revalued lately. the writers staled .they heard thai their end had been revalued before the -lump came, and when it eatue they slopped the revaluation, it this was true it had the effect of causing the people ot the north end oi the area to pay an excessive amount of rates.

The Clerk staled tie had replied that the whole county had been revalued and not poi lion of it.

Mr A. SeJferl wrote stating thai suine time ago some oi the Mukerua landowners submitted the Council a plan of the proposed loading scheme, and that they wanted the assistance of the Council in raising a Joan to construct the roads, At that time the financial position was bad, but matters had improved so much lately that they thought there should be a good opportunity to raise the money on favourable terms. The Council's assistance and advice in carrying out the work would lie appreciated. So

Hood, lion, secretary of ihe Koputaroa Hall Committee, stated that at a meeting in Koputaroa on January -», he was instructed to write asking if a section of land was obtained at the rear of Mr Bell's store tor the purpose of erecting a public hall, would the Council be prepared to carry the road through to the section, a distance of three and a-half chains.

Cr. Broadbelt said this was part of the proposed main roacT between Ko- j putaroa and Buckley. The native ( owners had" given the land lor the main road through there, the only , drawback being there would be a slight bend. The Chairman considered the question of the dedication of the land for road purposes should be gone into, ami with Cr. Broadbelt and the Engineer the Chairman was appointed to go into that matter. Mr \. C. Holms, Tiro Tiro Road, Levin, stated that a requisition \va= addressed to the Council a year ago for a water supply, and the signatories would be glad if the matter would receive further attention. Water was very necessary at this period of the year, and it was requested that the race in Tiro Tiro Boad area be cleaned and attended to. The Engineer said it was necessary to prepare a plan for a water supply, and he had no time lo do that. The Chairman said in cases of the kind' nothing was allowed for the engineering and clerical work. He thought the persons concerned should ;be informed accordingly, and the : members for the riding and Engineer ' were appointed to meet the parties interested. Mr T. Hillier, Ohau, drew attention to the culvert opposite his property. It was not sufficient to carry the wa- ' ter that was turned into it.

Cr. Harkness said the private ownners should be asked to do something about this drain, as it seemed to be ! carrying a Jot of water from adjoining properties. The Engineer Said Mr Wall had cut through to the county drain, which had caused the trouble. The Chairman, Cr. Harkness and Engineer were appointed to visit and inspect. Cr. Broadbelt and the Engineer were appointed to inquire into a com- ; plaint by Mr H, W. Eyes, Cr. Broadbelt stating that inspection could not ! be. made last month, '. Accounts amounting to £2037 were ' passed for payment. On Cr. Whyte's motion, the plan ol the gravel reserve at Shannon from the estate of P. J. Hennessy, deceas-

ed, area 2 acres 2 roods 30 perches was approved, and surveyor's ac count, £lO, authorised.
