Inspector's Report. The Inspector (Mr Cudby) reported that a slip occurred on the JudgefordMoonshinc road which for the time stopped all traffic. Planks of a bridge in the same locality were broken through heavily-laden motor lorries. One carried 24 bales of wool, the other 25. The planks were of solid totara. Stokes road had been widened, and a portion nonneeded metalling. Planks, etc., were required for Blackie's bridge at Horokiwi Valley, also 620 ft. for an adjacent bridge. For these he recommended hardwood limber, so as to cope with tho increasing heavy motor traffic. The Inspector said it could be proved who broke the bridge, and the Chairman suggested action be taken for damages. It was generally agreed that it was a mistake now to have totara planks and agreed that hardwood timber was most suitable. Cr. White-man thought if action was taken the Council would lose the case as it was for the Council to provide suitable bridges for heavy traffic. Cr. Mackay favored action being taken. Cr. Whiteman said the ford was a good one and considered motor-lorries should make use of it. It would be a very expensive item to re-plank the bridge.
