CHINESE “SHACKS.”

AN EYESORE IN OTAKI. At -the Borough Council meeting last night the Mayor took exception to the unsightly Chinese “shacks” that were very noticeable, drawing particular attention to one on the main road (Wacronga) where boards serve the place of windows, and the “house,” generally, an eyesore. He considered a clean-up necessary. His remarks were agreed to by other Councillors and in consequence the Health Department may shortly have something to say on the matter. The Mayor, however, forgot to mention that ihe stench arising from decayed cabbage leaves, etc., was more than the average person could stand.
