OTAKI PLAYERS AT WANGANUI. ; The Otaki Club was well represented at the recent AVanganui tournament by Br. Atiuoro and Messrs Sievcrs, Atmore and Tahiwi. The standard ol play in the tournament was an unusual•ly high one, many players from the N.Z. championships participating. Dr. Almore was the most successful of the Otaki-ites, not being beaten until she had reached the semi-finals of both the championship singles and the championship doubles, and the finals of the handicap singles. This last was an excellent performance, Br. Atmorc being the scratch lady conceding as much as owe 3". The final with Miss Wilson from the Bulls Tennis Club, who received 2 points each game, was tin interesting and keenly-contested final, the score at one stage being 0 all. The handicap began to tell, however, and . Miss Wilson eventually won at S) —5. j
The Otaki men were not so success ful although several well fought games were witnessed. Messrs Sievers and Atmorc played hard to reach the semifinals of the handicap doubles, where they were defeated by Fodeu and Boilings, the first pair from Lyall Bay Club, o—7,0 —7, to whom they conceded owe 15 each game—a big handicap. Among the visiters to the Otaki Tennis Courts on Saturday last was -M iss Lloyd, a member of the Australian team touring New Zealand. ive. The Otaki Club has been singularly fortunate this season in having received visits from so many notable players and members have derived much benefit from watching the exhibition games played.
