PRESENTATION.

A pleasant function took place ou tlie Otaki bowling green during the afternoon tea adjournment on Saturday,, when presentations were made to Miss Millie Baker, who leaves for Wanganui to enter on the nursing profession. Mi O'l'ourke said he took it as a great privilege to say a few words, and in doing so regretted that Miss Baker was about to leave. A-s a member of the Croquet Club she had nursed it since it' infancy till it. was now "a healthy organisation, while she had always l"'en amiable, and well deserved her popularity. She was also a painstak mg player and caleretl for the mem Imrs, hail proved of assistance io tin bo triers, helping at. afternoon tens, etc Although he regretted Miss Baker was leaving Otaki lie was pleased to know she was entering a honored profession,! and was glad to know that her qualili cations were of the best, she having a bright and lively disposition. In ask ing Miss Baker's acceptance of a fountain pen he hoped she would meet with every suecess. (Applause, followed by “For .She’s a Jolly Good Fellow’').

Mr Witehell. on behalf of the Horticultural Society, extended his thanks to Miss Baker for the great assistance she had given, spoke of her unfailing courtesy. and the help she had been at all times. For years past she had had charge of the tea-rooms with Miss Whiteman, and had worked splendidly. Miss Baker would prove a big loss to the Society. She had also worked energetically daring the war period, and for years been a member of his household, where she had gained the respect of Mrs Witehell and himself. He wished her every success in her new venture. and had pleasure in asking her acceptance of a silver watch, which he hoped would serve to remind her of her many Otaki friends. (Applause). Mr 01 liver replied on Miss Baker's behalf, said how grateful she felt and how deeply she would treasure her gifts. lie said she regretted leaving t-o many kind friends behind.
