AN ASSET TO A TOWNSHIP.
To the Editor. | Sir, —Being a visitor in Manakau last Wednesday, and having a short time to spare, I was attracted by the number of cars near the Anglican Church. On arriving there I discovered the local tennis courts a pretty animated scene. I counted between 70 and 80 people enjoying an afternoon's sport ( to say nothing of the sumptuous after- , noon tea. A lively match was being played with a neighbouring town, and ' everybody seemed so sociable. The courts (two iu number) are well formed and very clearly marked: ' tie grass around the courts was very W.ell kept, and the surrounding shrubs, i frith hills in the background, alto- | gether made a pretty scene. Some of j the players put up some very good j games and Tilden will soon be out- I classed. I could not help thinking wfcat an asset this, was to the town and t a great boon to the. residents On my vroy to the station I passed the local cenotaph—a credit to any large town —' erected to the memory of f&Hen sol- j die's in the great war.' I was told the residents were trying to make a metal road" right out to the beach. Good luck to them!' Are there any building sections for sale there 1" —I am, etc., . . •./•', RACQUETS. 1
