I The Navy Department has announced the consolidation of the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets under the single command of Admiral Jones, but it in- , volved no changes in any present os- , signment of sliips or the navy’s per- J sonnel. It was chiefly for effecting peace-time organisation that could he carried into a war emergency without ; change. The fleet under the new . plan will consist of the battle fleet, | composing the main fighting strength j of the navy, and prepared to engage an enemy fleet, the scouting fleet, the ' fleet base force, and the control fleet . to organise control of the sea after ! this has been obtained by the action I of the battle fleet.
