! ROAD IMPROVEMENT. A meeting, which was well attended j and of an enthusiastic nature, was held at the public hall on Monday night. Mr IT. Clifford presiding. Or. Bryant introduced the subject of the meeting, and a general discussion followed. 1.1 {was pointed out that the Government [was offering a subsidy of £2OO, the • County Council £IOO, while the - resijdents were expected lo find £IOO, the ! total amount of which would go a long f'v.ny towards improving the road to the beach. Mr Andrew emphasised the fact that the road should be freehold, and that the property where it was tak•en should have a clear title. Messrs ■ Drake Bros, assured the meeting that there would be no trouble over this. On Ithe motion of ATr J. Nicholson, second|ed by Air Alf. Atkins, it was decided to endeavour to collect the necessary £IOO so as to enable the work to be done. Towards this amount Messrs Drake Bros, offered £25. an offer that was gratefully accepted. Alter further discussion Messrs J. Nicholson. T. I.eiH-h. and Cr. Bryant were appointed committee to .collect the money. Mr \ AV. X. Anderson, County Engineer, was <i present, but said he could not say how far the £4OO would cany the work, lie would go into the matter and report. He considered, however, that £-400 should be nearly sufficient. A vote o;' thanks to .the chairman concluded a splendid meeting.
