+ _. LITTLE CHANGE IN SITUATION. There was practically no change if the shipping position yesterday. Further attempts by unionist seamen to secure re-engagement were unsuccessful, the employer- insisting, as a condition precedent on a satisfactory guarantee for observance of the award. There i; a; yet no sign of this being forthcoming. The one development of note was a demand by the Merchant .Sendee Guild, the Marine Engineers ’ Institute, and the Cook- and stewards’ Union for removal by the Government oi the suspension of the shipping and Seamen Alt.
