A rumour was current in Otaki on Monday night that a well-known Aa - tive had been lost on the ‘‘Forest Lakes” property, and it was thought that he might have fallen into one of the many lakes during darkness. A search party set out and found him safe in a whare. Mr “Andy” Lees, who has been mine host of the Jubilee Hotel for some time, has been offered several positions, but it is probable that he will enjoy a good trip before again settling down. During Mr and Mrs Lees’ residence in Otaki they have made many ! friends, all of whom will wish thc-m success in any venture they undertake. “I think proportional representation should have a fair trial in vh:> country,” said Mr C. Jubilee celebrations, in connection with the pretty little Church of St. Barnabas, Warrington, took place or, the 12th instant, and despite the bad weather large congregations attended the services; districts between Oamaru and Dunedin being veil represented. A party from the Tararua Tramping Club (Wellington) are expected in Otaki to-niglit for the purpose of visiting hit. Hector where a hut is being erected. Miss Jauneey has donated ten volumes to the Otaki library, while Mr Atkinson has given Xmas numbers of the "Weekly Press and Weekly Xews. The Committee desires to express its thanks for the gifts. The funeral of the infant daughter of Mr and Mrs P. J. Taylor took place yesterday, when the Rev. R. P. Iveall conducted an impressive ceremony at the graveside. A number of beautiful floral tributes were placed on the coffin. . Members of the Otaki Borough Council and engineer yesterday visited the water-works at Waitohu to witness the laying of the foundation of the tank. Work is proceeding apace, the contractor, Mr Grayling, losing no time with the undertaking. Gooseberries are advertised for sale. Diaries for 1P23 are being sold by Mr L. G. Lowry. Tenders close to-day for painting' the Anglican Church and vicarage.
We remind pleasure-seekers of the dance to be held at Tuinui to-morrow night. Messrs Bills and Moore have several “scatters’' in this issue which are worthy of perusal. The annual general meeting ot the Otaki Surf Club will be held on Tuesday next at 7.d0. Messrs McClure ami Hark ness, candidates for the Otaki seat, were among the visitors to Otaki to-day. Dr. Mary Amour will deliver an address ia the Otaki theatre on November 30th. Particulars will appear next issue. A garden party will be held in connection with the Te Horn Methodist Ladies’ Guild tit Mr and Mrs T. TL WiicHey V on Saturday next at 1.30. There will be several attractions, and a large crowd is expected. Mr H. (Bob) Cunn. well-known in sporting circles, has taken possession of the Jubilee Hotel, and intends to enter fully for visitors or others requiring accommodation. For some considerable time Mr and Mrs Cann reside'! in Nelson where they made hosts of friends, all of whom regretted their departure. However, Nelson's loss will be Otaki's gain.
