PAEKAKARIKI.

CHILDREN’ 8 GRAND FANCY DRESS BALL. On November 3rd in St. Peter’s Hall, Packakuriki, a children's grand fancy dress ball was held, having been organised by the “Ladies’ Basket Ball Club,” known as the “Daisy Club.” The entire decorations were carried out in the colours of the Club—-black and ocllow. a feature of the decorations ( being chains of black and yellow dairies and also a huge daisy suspended in the centre of the hall. This tlowcx is the emblem of the Club. A large number of adults and children were present, each child being provided with a balloon which added colour to :ul animated crowd. The evening began with a children’s grand march, which was followed by games ' and ■ dancing for the children till supper •time. After supper the door was given ') uvcr to the adults for dancing. The tail-end of the grand march was two tiny tots, who were the prize winners for the best fancy dresses. The girl’s prize went to little Miss Elora A'ichol very realistic “kewpie,” and the l,nv>’ to a diminutive cowboy in the person of Master Arthur lloltom. During the evening Mrs Cluthrie, the wife u£ Hon. Mr Guthrie, spoke about the object of the entertainment and also in praiso of the prize-winners. Mrs Guthrie also presented the prizes. Mr Campbell, chairman of the school committee, thanked the ladies of the Club for their efforts on behalf of the children. The proceeds of this successful evening are in aid of tennis material for the school tennis club.
