THE REDS' LAND POLICY.
To the Editor, sir,--We observe that Mr ,T. Stephens, in addressing ilie < hairnets el- ■ tins, siitd if there was one section more than another that should link up with the party (Holland 's party) it was the small working farmer. In this con iieetiim we desire to ask Mr Stephendues he seriously ask any private land holder, whether, in town or rountry, to uphold this plank in hi- party's platform: (A) A State valuation of all pri-vately-owned land, sneli v;ilu;i tion to remain on record as the measure of present land-holder's interest in bind. (B) That privately-owned land shall not be sold or transferred except to the Suite. (C) The owner shall have the right to surrender his land Oti the \ al nation set out in sub-clause (A). Surely .Mr Stephens, who sold out of.
his own district, must recognise that clause (B.) of above is a straight ottt proposal to confiscate the owner's rights of private sale or transfer. He must also see that under such provision the owner of a piece of laud could not transfer it even to his own mother. 1* is u most absurd proposition and wear., surprised to had an otherwise sane men upholding anything so ridiculous. —We arc. etc., 'N.Z. WELFARE LEAGUE. November 9, 1022.
