The locally-trained Fisher finished second in the Port Cooper Hurdles at Ckristchurch on Wednesday. Gasbag won the Canterbury Cup. Mr H. T. Gome, who died suddenly on Saturday, was for n number of years vice-president of the Auckland Racing (Tub and had previously held office as president. Mr Jas. The Stewards' Handicap winner, Glentruin. is tin English-tired mare by Sunflower 11., a daughter of Sundridgc, a very speedy horse, which lias bred on successfully. One of his sons, Sunstar, was a Derby winner, ami later earned fame at the stud, while another of them is Absurd, who has made a great name as a sire of speed in New Zealand. G. Young wtis fined £5 by the starter for alleged misbehaviour at the start cf the New Zealand Cup, and P. Kcer.e a-similar amount for breaking through the barrier at the, start of the Ljnwood Handicap. The North Island trailer, T. F. Quinlivan. who turned out Scion in such good order fc.r the New Zealand Cup on Saturday, has an enviable record in connection with that event, as he also prepared Bridge and Midnight Sun when they won in the colours of Mr E. J. Watt. ' E. Rood, who rode Scion in the New Zealand Cup on Saturday, has been one of the leading korspoicn in tie Dominion for several years past, but he had never previously been in a place in the Xew Zealand Cup.

A trio of English-bred fillies imported by Mr Vivian Eiddiford reached Wellington recently by tha steamer Tainui. The youngsters were all foaled in 192.1, and their breeding is as follows:—Bay filly, by Blink (son of Sunstar) from Faverolis; chestnut filly, by Sommc Ki?s (son of Sunstar) from' Grendall Chick; brown filly. >by Diadumenos (son of Orby) from Lady Marca. The fillies were landed in good condition, and will be turned out at the Hutt and given time to acclimatise prior to being put into training. Mr Riddiford is at present his way ollf , ~ ld Country, The New Zealand Cup winner. Scion, was bred by Mr I. G. Duncan at Waikanae Stud, and was purchased by Messrs V. and E. Eiadiforcl as a yearling for' oOOgns. He is by Bouiform from Ladv-Jean 11.. an imported mare by lan "from Bettyfield, a grand-daughter of Springfield, a noted English sire, which also figures close up in the pedigree of Otterden, the dam of Boniform. Scion started ten times as a two-year-old, for one win and six lots of place money. He made his first appearance I at Trenthain in the spring, being un- ' placed in what was subsequently shown to be a good class field as it included Winning Hit (second), The Hawk, Grotesque, Anomaly and Palestrina. At three years he raced with better "uek, as he "won four times, including the Empire Handicap at Wanganui and the King George Handicap at Ellerslie.
