As a large quantity of cr«ani ■ was sent to Wellington, the output is considered very satisfactory. A record in egg« has been established at Paraparaumu. where Mrs Pratley's White Leghorn hens have beaten all previous records. For some time past they have been laying double-yo!k eggs, but this week several eggs have been secured with three full-sized yolks in each —a record that will take beating. The Haut.ere Hifle Club's dance at To Horo c-u Wednesday was most' successful. There was a spk-niiid attendance, the arrangements were complete, and all present spent a most enjoyable time. Mr J. Guy was a capable M.C., while Mr D. Nicholls supplied fine music. The Club is indebted to Mrs J. K. Cottle for supervising the support K.Tiingements. Mr Bert Kihni.-ter. an ardent fojiower of Isaac Walton, has been most suecelfcful with the lino this season, and on Tuesday night secured a very fine basket of trout from the Otaki river. Mr Joe Ayre has also been successful, and recently landed a '.-potted beauty' weighing 3J lbs. One evening he caught seven—each over 2Jlbs —and a fine " rainbow."

A fine (urge vat tor pasteurising cream has been installed ar the Rahui Dairy Co'., factory, and promises to t,e a great -ucces=. The eream is heated by swans of hot water which passe? Through ._-«}>, and is jnjn »« tidily cuojed by cold water and brine. The pasteuriser gives a more even toroperatorc to .the cream, and therefore gives far better results on the old-style treatment. Yesterday £SO gallons oi cream for the Wellington supply were treated splendid result.-. A platform for receiving cream is now being erected by Mr D. Wilson, Mr B. Kilmister having the contract. When in order the received wii! be run straight inine pasteuriser, which will -ave pumping, the latter having an injurious Effect, E. '.Clio local schools will be closed on Monday next (Labour Day). Dr. Poinare, M.P., will give an address at Tainui at 1 o'clock to-morrow, and at the Kaukawa at 7 p.m. the same day. Mr Ben Ling, writing from California, says "he is enjoying lifo, and having the best of times." Whisky, he says, is selling at 2s 6d per nip, or 40s pint.

Parcels of newspapers are thrown from the morning expresses as they pass through Te Horo, and yesterday a bundle struck the station, rebounded and went under the with disastrous results to the papers. Recently a person standing on the platform had a narrow escape from being knocked over by papers thrown out. The following is an extract from a letter written by an American lady, who recently toured Xew Zealand. Letter referred to has just come to hand by the Vancouver mail:—"So Pussyfoot Johnson is trying to put New Zealand dry. Say, tell that bird to come homo to roost, and clean up his own yard first. Let me tell you, vote we*. America, I consider, is ruined by increase of drugs and wholesale moonshiners, deaths in galore, and it costs tho Government a small fortuue paying revenue officers to go after the bootlegger. It's no good, and no good for New Zealand. It makes liars and thieves, and there is, I reckon, as much booze in 'Frisco as ever, and arrests and raids are going on every day, stills everywhere. It was a war-time measure here, .same as (i o 'clock closing in your country, and the people never got the chance to get it back again. They never voted it dry, and now the bootloggers are making fortunes out of it, and so don't wish it to become wet again.''

Prices for chimneys, rough-casting, etc., are icquired. A wristlet watch is advertised as found. Train arrangements for the Wellington races are advertised. A sale of prime meat will take place at the Otaki mart to-morrow. Tenders close on Wednesday for the erection of bathing sheds at the Otaki beach. A replace advertisement from Messrs Evans and Sawyer appears in this issue. ; —" r w Messrs Joplin and Co. will offer prime lamb and young ducks at their meat to-morrow. A meeting of members of the I'araparaumu Horticultural Society will be held on Friday (27th) at 8 o'clock. Mr L. G. Lowry, ,hooksidk-r and stationer, has opened up a lovely variety of Christmas cards, also presents of all descriptions for all ages. Footballers ar& reminded of the meeting to bo held in the Council Chambers to-morrow night to arrange a social as a wind-up to a successful season. Mr Jas.
