PAEKAKARIKI.

Sickness amongst the children is very prevalent at present, whole families being down. Several of the adults are laid up. Arrangements for a district vnurse are now well in hand, and it is hoped that one will be in the district shortly. Dr. Sharp now visits Packakariki every Tuesday and may be consulted at St. Peter's Hall from two to three o'clock.

j This is greatly appreciated by the residents. Mr Gaze, our local schoolmaster, resumed duties last week after a severe illness. The Health Officer visited Packakariki last week with the result that several back yards have been ordered a clean-up. Several properties have changed hands lately. Mr Slight has sold to a Palmerston syndicate, who intends erecting an up-to-date boarding-house. The present house is being improved, and is now open to guests. The second story on Mr Holtom's motor garage is now almost completed.

Billiard tables have arrived and a billiard saloon will open shortly. The motor lorry, which was burned recently ou Packakariki hill is now a sorry looking spectacle. When returning home from Packakariki last week Dr. Sharp had the misfortune to have his ear struck by a passing car which damaged his motor considerably. The occupants, it is said, never had the decency to stop and see if anyone was hurt.

Election matters are very quite, practically no interest being taken. Everybody appears quite satisfied with Mr Masscy. An aveu'go of 20 motor lorries pass through Packakariki daily.
