WAIHOANGA.

j SOCIAL EVENING. In spite of the fact that the clerk of the weather had given that old reprobate '' Rude Boreas,'' a free hand last Tuesday night, not many of those who received invitations issued by Mr and Mrs Standish to eelebrate the birthday of their daughter, Miss Ivy Standish, declined to face the adverse elements. Cards, music, and parlour games were indulged in until supper came along, and then all thoughts were concentrated in this direction. After the cake had been cut some splendid speeches were made. Mr R. Hagan was in excellent form and made good use of his powers of oratory, besides being in a distinctly humorous vein. Mr G. Newlands, who replied on behalf of Miss Standish, fairly brought down the house with the masterly way he handled the subject. . Cheers being given for the host and hostess all dispersed after a very happy evening.
