OTAKI TENNIS CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Otaki Tennis Club was held last evening, when there was a splendid attendance. Mr C. F. Atmore presided till the arrival of the President (Mr, \V. M. Simcox). The annual report and balancesheet were read and adopted. Both were considered highly satisfactory. Mr Atmore, in moving their adoption, j complimented Mr Melntyrc (secretary) on the complete statement placed before members, considering it the best he had seen. Mr F. S. Simcox. in seconding, endorsed the remarks, adding thiil he had been connected with the Club for 25 years and had never before seen a better statement. Mr W. M. Simcox was re-elected president, and Mr Atmore in proposing him said Mr Simcox had ably filled the position during the past season, and was satisfied a better man for the position could not be obtained. Mr Simcox, who accepted the position, returned thanks, but said he would like to see the honours passed round. He had not been able to do much during the year, but he hoped during the coming season to show more activity. Other officers were elected as fol-lows:—Vice-presidents, Messrs Byron Frown and R. C. Kirk (re-elected); secretary and treasurer, Mr Bid Sicvers: committee, Mrs Joplin, Misses Swabcy and O'Kourke, Messrs Atmore, ; Sargisson,' P. and S. .Simcox; auditor, , Mr H. Witchell (re-elected); to sign cheques, Mr Atmore and the secretary. , Regret was expressed that Mr Mcln- < tyro would not again accept the office ; of secretary, he resigning on account I \ of lack of time. i
It was decided to open the courts on Saturday, 11th inst., and that working bees prepare the ground during the week previous. The question of unfinancial members was discussed, while it was decided to raise this season's subscription to £2 lis (id. to be reduced to £2 2s if .paid on or before December Ist. It was resolved to mise the age of junior members to 2" years. Annual Report. Following is the report: —• '' Work done —All courts were topdressed, the pine trees felled, a considerable amount of fencing completed, and the pavilion added to and renovated before the commencement of the tennis season hist year. A grass court was laid out but was not playable, although the greater proportion of money spent in labour was expended on it. The committee hope to get it in playing order before December. Balancesheet —The balance-sheet presents a fairly good position, although showing an overdraft. The greater proportion of money expended last year is represented by some asset or by wasting improvements; but by capitalising these last and writing them off over a period of years, say five, we can arrive at our true yearly position. Improvements to the pavilion, which are a much more sound asset, may be written off over a period of say. fourteen years. For the year ending 1921-22 »he Club shows a profit of £4 Is. Social—During the year 'we had visits from Victoria College team and Levin reams, and we sent |
teams to Levin, and also a men's team to Palmerston North. Unfortunately, •v\e experienced difficulty in getting ladies' teams, due no doubt to the want Of practice with men players. The Committee hope that more combined games will be played this year so as to strengthen our ladies- for match game.-.—M. C. McINTYRE, Hon. Secretary, O.L.T.C.
