MONTHLY MEETING. 3 The ordinary monthly meeting of - the above was held on Wednesday i morning. Present: His Worship the i Mayor (Air Brandon), Crs. C. Kilsby, : A. W. Broadway, R. Carkeck, J. R. ; Bills, H. Cockrell, and H. Taylor. r Correspondence. Correspondence was read and deali with as follows: From B. 11. Slack, ottering to lease the domain at £lO per year.—Decided to notify Air Swcnsson, present lessee, that unless rent due was paid within 1-1 days he would be sued, and provided the Council had power to let the domain to,accept Air Slack’s oiler, it bc- | iiig pointed out that Swcnsson held a year's lease, six months of which only had lapsed.
From W. 11. Field, AI.P., enclosing a I letter from the Alinister of Railways relative to lavatory accommodation on the 9.2/5 Wellington-Palmerston N.
train, and stating there was a promise that a compartment car would be substituted, when available, for the one now used. The Alinister stated that persons travelling outside the suburban area were very limited. Air Field asked that he be supported in his request for the extra accommodation, considering it was badly needed. —Councillors, generally, agreed with Air Field, while it was pointed out that lavatory accommodation was badly needed. Decided to strongly support Mr Field in the application.
From Clutka Mackenzie offering to give an address for Wir Arthur Pearsou’s memorial at Otaki on October 2. —Decided to reply that this date was suitable.
Miscellaneous. It was decided to take a piece of footpath at Otaki Kailway under the P.W. Act. but to leave a further stretch towards the factory in abeyance. It was pointed out by Or. Broadway that the Kangiuru swing bridge was dangerous and that re-decking was needed.—Decided that the work be done.
The tender of Mr Grayling (ItPi 18 s -Id) was accepted for the erection of a footbridge across the Waitolui. Iliis was the only tender, while the Engineer’s estimate was £l6O. It was decided to call for tenders for the carting of pipes in connection with the water-works, anil that the laying of pipes be done by day labour at l-is per day. The Clerk said the time was opportune to review- office work in view of the fact that a building supervisor was necessary. lie pointed out that a lot of building was going on and unless there was proper supervision trouble may arise through builders failing to comply with by-laws. It was out of the question to get a special man, but if more assistance could be given him iu office work he could cope with the

each morning, but it would be necessary to have an extra junior clerk. The present one was only under temporary engagement. The Mayor agreed that it would be better for the Engineer to be out more. The' Clerk said he thought he could get assistance at £1 per week. Decided to leave the matter in the hands of the Finance Committee with power to act. It was decided to revert to evening meetings instead of day meetings, as at present. Cr. Taylor said he had been approached' by Mr Stan Parker relative to the Otaki-Porirua football match which it was stated had been played to declare the winners of the Licensed Victuallers’ cup. Mr Parker had sug-
gested to him that the gate money raised that day should go to the domain funds owing to the Union deciding that the Porirua team was not eligible to play for the trophy.—Decided to take no action.
The Secretary of the Horowhenua Rugby Union wrote- stating the arrangements made with the Council relative to the domain was the same as made elsewhere; further other local bodies had made no complaints, while Otaki Council had received more than some of the adjacent Councils. ihe present arrangement was the best the Union could offer.—Received. The Department of Health wrote stating Otaki was still free of notifiable infectious diseases. A complaint about the keeping of fowls and bowling down of animals by a resident was investigated. and a requisition has been served to remedy the trouble. A complaint re the creek at Otaki Railway would be investigated. Rceeited. Cr. Cockrell said his attention had been drawn to a wandering bull-on Tasman Road. —It was decided to take action against the owner if the nuisance was not abated.
