PARAPARAUMU CROSSING.

The agitation for an improvement to

ike railway crossing at Kapiti road. Paraparnumu, has resulted iu the Kailwav Department submitting the following proposal-:—“ Gi) Kapiti street to be absolutely closed by removing tla gates on both sides and fencing it off; (2) a level crossing to be granted at the south end of the railway yard; (5) the Department to provide and erect the cattle-stops, and the Hurt County Council to do all the necessary road work ’ The proposals were placed before the Hutt County Council yesterday, a after con'-ideiation the council decided that it could not see its way clear to accept. The ratepayers, in a-petition •igned by 112 occupants of land in tcc vicinity of the crossing, had previou-w urged that the obstructions (fences and gate«j at present on the crossing shouD be removed, and that the crossing opened to the full width of the zof‘The council had supported the ream” and decided to press for the mat ter to be amended to in the manner e r sired by the ratepayers.
