Deceased, who was known right throughout the North Island.among the. Maoris, was a general favourite among j both pakehas and members of his own j race. The deceased lived in Manakau for a great number of years, carrying on farming on his estate “Pekapeka ” which is now being Teased. He was a hard-working, keen business man in his younger days, and for a time was en- . gaged in flaxTuilling-. sawmilling, farming. etc. About ten years ago he re-j tired, leased his "Pekapeka'' estate, and bought two homesteads near the _..Alttnakau’ station where he lived and passed peacefully away after an illness of about six weeks. Of kite he had been of indifferent health, and was un, dev the Ratana treatment. The bite, Eopatti was about SO years old. was married four times, and leaves a wife. , six sons, Dan, iliwi, and Tau (Maun | k:iu), August, Wiremu. and Maim (Rotorua), and two daughters Mrs Samson (Manakau) and Hihiwa (Rotorua). 40 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren, and other relatives to mourn their loss. A taugi is now in progress at .Manakau, which will probably be the largest in this district for many years. It will probably be under canvas. The date of the funeral has not bc-en fixed.
