j THE LICENSED VICTUALLERS ’ I CUP. A meeting of licensed victuallers — Messrs McGill, Walsh, and Lees —-donors of the cup now being competed for, met last night, when it was decided to contradict the paragraph appearing in the paper that it was their intention to withdraw the cup from competition, but it was stated that the competition was open to any junior dub, and not only the clubs in the Horowhonua district. The Union, they considered, had placed a wrong interpretation on the conditions, and in consequence had placed Porirua in a wrong position. It was also their wish that the conditions be slightly altered, and with this in view they will meet the Rugby Unien officials early next season.

At the last meeting of the Rugby Union a letter was received from the Manawatu Rugby Union offering to defray the expenses of the Horowhenua rep. team to Palmerston North on September 16 to meet Manawatu, also to pay the cost of the combined team’* visit to Wellington after that to play the Wellington representatives. The offer was accepted, Mr Bevan to bi manager of the team to Palmerston and nlso to be the Horowhenua selector for the combined team, Manawatu to be advised accordingly.

Father Vibaud and Messrs Thomson and Carmichael were appointed a committee to meet the Manawatu Union at Palmerston North on Friday evening to go into the amalgamation proposal. The Union having written and asked the Referees’ Association for a balancesheet in regard to a sum of £."> handed to the Association by the Union, and no reply being forthcoming, it was decided to notify the Association that the balance-sheet be produced.
