CHILDREN'S COMPETITIONS.
The annual "Children's Kvening," conducted by the Otaki Literary and Debating Club, will bo held in Uiu Otaki theatre on Thursday, September 21. I Inaugurated four years ago, these competitions have been growing in popularity and usefulness, and this year it is expected that an even greater interest will bo evinced. -In its endeavours to make these evenings a success the ; Club, in past years, owed much to the untiring efforts of Nurse Lewis, who not; only collected the whole of the prize money, but also personally interviewed and induced largo numbers of children to enter for the competitions. This year the Nurse's influence will be missed, but the committee feel now I that the spirit of competition has captivated the minds of the children, they will come forward in large numbers of their own accord. Suggestions to add to the interest of the competitions are invited, also donations to the prize fund, which may bo forwarded to the "Otaki Mail" office. Special attention is called to the local limerick competition, which is open to both children and adults.
