VICTORY SOCIAL.
•, The Hui Mai Football Club 's Victory i dance was held on AVeduosday evening • in the Manakau Town Hall, v. hen a rei ! cord attendance was present, including visitors from Otaki, Levin and Waika[nae. Tho hall was beautifully decorI ated with plaited Nikau palms, arrang>ed by Mr Gibson. Tho supper arrangements were carried out splendidly; the lady folk being worthy of special mention iu this respect. Mesdamos O'Connor, Creed, Walshaw, No.cs aud Dalzell were tho leading lights in making the necessary arrangements. During the evening Major Tatum, patron of the club, on rising to speak was loudly applauded, aud in his very fitting speech be referred to the untiring efforts of the ladies and their vaiuuble assistance. Continuing ho referred to the succcsu of the club, having on many occasions been runners up for champion honors, and stating that there .was no man happier than he that Hui I Mai seniors had been victorious this
season. Later in the. evening, Mr Thomson, of Levin, (Chairmau of the Horowheuuu Rugby Union), in a neat speech, handed over the shield to the wiuning team, i who had assembled near the stage. Mr George (team captain) accepted the same, and on behalf of his fellow players suitably replied. Mr W. Sevan, in a splendid speech, referred to tho assistance given by the local committee, which, no doubt, assisted the players in their victory. Major Tatum's gift of a very fine pipe to the best all-round player was presented by the president, Mr Dalzell, to Mr C. Porter, who referred to the good qualities of the player. Mr Porter suitably replied. A song was given by the veteran three-quarter, Mr Andrew, who was encored. The "winger" appeared in football "togs," and appeared the making of a good athlete. A recitation ("For Aw That") wue given by Mr Thomson, who was encored. Major Tatum, iu a, few well-chosen '.'.ords, then thanked Air Inge for his generosity in lending hi< ground for tho use of football during the season. Cheers followed. This brought the enjoyable evening to a close. Mr Dick Bryant and W. Bovun were capable M's.C.
