OTAKI (6) v. OLD BOYS (S). This game was played at Otaki cm Sail'd ay, being the first match of the season for the valuable cup presented by tho licensed victuallers of Otaki. Both teams were below form, duo to want of practice, while the Old Boys lacked much of their usual dash. Otaki started oli in great style, and within three minutes of the kick oil' Kuna scored a line try, whieli ltobinson failed to convert. The spell, patchy at times, although at times good play was witnessed, was chiefly in favor of Otalu, but the defence prevented further score. In the second half Tahiwi scored. but Sublit zky tailed to convert although the kick was a good one. Play was of a more interesting nature, and when 0. Kuoka had kicked a penalty goal for Old Boys interest increased, and for the last fifteen minutes excitement reigned, Old Boys having all the best of the game. Strenuous attempts were made to score, and the line was narrowly missed on more than one occasion, However, no further score was registered and the Otaki team was heralded as winners, ii—3. Ur F. The linai for the junior championship vas played at Levin on ‘Saturday, when Tokomaru accounted for Fanipuruumii by Hi points to 0. The game was a fairly good one. exciting at times, but the line play bv Tokomaru was superior to that displayed by the southerners. The long grass on the Otaki domain needs feeding off; it is tar too long to allow of good play. With tho approach of the rep. match it is hoped the ground will have attention. The Golden Bay reps., due to play at Otaki ou the i’.Oth, are claimed to be a good all-round team, and their match with Horowhenua should therefore be a good one. Arrangements will be made to-morrow night to entertain the visitors during their stay at Otaki. A dance will probably be held. Advice has been received in Shannon that it has been decided to play the Horowhenua-Wairarapa rep. football match there mi August -’ii.
