DAIRY FARMERS’ UNION.
PROGRESS IN THE MAN AAV AT U DISTRICT. By all the teporls available, the Dairy Farmers’ Union is malting great headway. Air A. E. Bear, the Dominion organiser, who has been only about -ix weeks in the district, ha> already enlisted the active support of various gentlemen who arc well known as bleeders of pedigree stock. The names of# Alcssrs S. K. Lancaster. A. Laneustor, B. Cobb, Lovelock. A. 0. Donald. Ai. F. Andoixon, T. Seccombe and James Ata«farlaue speak for themselves. Eighteen branches have already been formed, and xhortlv a conference is to be held iu Palmerston North to elect a provincial executive to carry on this movement. The policy of the Dairy Farmers’ Union, which is of such vital importance to the dairyman mid to the Dominion as a whole, seems to be the whole secret of the enthusiasm displayed. One wonders seeing tha* pr.tctv cnllv every branch of industry specialises and is organised accordingly whilst dairy farmers have boon lagging behind. The cardinal points which the organisation emphasises are worthy of whole-hearted support. Such items as the necessity of increasing our dairy output by culling out Robber cows, and replacing them, by properly tested stock. The introduction of Pedigree I bulls; a. proper marketing scheme of butter on the Home market : the de- j vclopment of our bacon industry, the ! 1 federation of all kindred industries in- | - to one large producers’ association, of j Which tke Farmers’ Union would be the j • federated head, are the most salient , planks in the platform.-.
