ANNUAL MEETING.

Tjhie sixteenth annual meeting' of the Associaton jyas beta on Saturday. The president (Mr A. McLeavey) .was in the chair, and there jvere 25 members present.

The Council of Agriculture lor.varded the preliminary prder paper or ilie annual conference, which was sent out to give ihe associations an jppo-rtunity of considering the various uatters before the delegates left for no conference.

It u'iis decided Unit the order J?.aper be handed to the Association's delegate to the conference. .Mr 3. McLeavey was subsequently appointed delegate. REPORT; AND BALANCE-SHEET. The annual report was presented as follows: Your committee has pleasure in presenting to you the sixteenth annual report and balance-sheet, and, in doing so, wish to express their appreciation of the support which, has been accorded the Association by all concerned. ,You will note from the appended statement that the past year's working of the Association has suffered financially, as is .the ease of many similar bodies, owing to the adverse times experienced; as commencing the year with a credit .balance of £ll3 .7s lld z it .ended with a debit #JL' £63 1/4. .To meet this deficiency, youi committee made satisfactory arrangements with the Association's bankers for an advance of £foo .until su»ii time as sufficient money is in hand to redeem the liability. The entries for the last show, although not equal to the previous year, exceeded expectations, and. the quality of all @xI hibits was exceedingly good, including several outside competitors. The post entry, competitions showed a decrease of so.'me £7 as 'compared with tiie previous year. Taking the chief items ot ievenue, viz., donations, Members' (annual! subs., entry fees, and gate receipts, as compared with the previous year, it will easily disclose the reason oi the present financial position, as in these lour items alone there , is a difference of £165. The guessing competitions and sale of stock also show a decrease of £47. In addition to the general-expenditure hi connection wilt: the show, your committee also had the competition ring fenced in and partly regrassed at a cost oi £52, whii h proved a. great benefit in ihe judging oi the horse classes ami ting events. Your committee wish to thank all who so willingly assisted in various wavs with donations, etc.,

also the many stewards in charge ol the various classes and. competitions in helping to carry the show through. They have every confidence in the future, and feel sure that, with the continued support of members as in the past, together with that of exhibitors and general public, Hie Association will continue to advance in spite of the bad times experienced during the past year. As the annual subscription lor the ensuing year is now falling due, members would be greatly assisting the Association by making an early payment, which would be much appreciated. The balance-sheet showed receipts (o the amount oi £BBS 18/3, .which in eluded a sum of £ll3 VII balance in hand at June 1, 1921. The principal items of revenue were: Donations £llO J 2,3, subscriptions £270 10/, entry lees -£162 2,6. gates Wi T: 0, ground ices £22 13 6, privileges £29 10/, guessing competitions £ls 3/, saie stock £3B 2/6, catalogues £lO 13/. Expenditure amounted to £948 I'.', 7, leaving a debit balance lor the year oi £63 1/4. The chief items id' expenditure were: Prize money £-106 3/6, printing and stationery £65 7/3, postages ,etc, £27 4/9, wages ami salaries Clb'j 0/10, competition ring £52 12/2, amusement tax £25 8/7; band £lO 10/, insurance £ll 15/6, luncheons £36 3 , leed £l2, sundry accounts iS'SJ li,- ; - finance committee £SO, besides several smaller amounts.

In taking the chair lor another term, Mr McLeavey stated thai though the past year had been a diffleuK one for the Association owing to the changing conditions, the members should .work all the harder for the success of the next show. He took the opportunity of thanking the (committees and officials for the way in. which they had worked during the past year, and was sure they would (do the same in the coming term,

McLeavey briefly returned thanks for their election as vice-presidents. hi reading the names of tiie committee iliat had been elected, the chairman said he regretted to notice that several old committeemen were not on the list. He specially mentioned ill' Sigley and Mr Stickles, both of whom had been hard-working members of the ommittee. Mr P. YV. Goldsmith, honorary treasurer, stated that since the two-days' show bad been instituted, and the new arrangement in regard to the gate receipts, his duties as treasurer had been very light, more so as they had such excellent officials as Mr Wallace secretary) and Mr. Pykc auditor). Although it had been stated that the !,asi year had not been a good as they could wish, the Association had paid out more prize-money than lot the previous year—£lo6 as against £3'jo—which was noi a bad sign alter all.
