PRESENTATION.
TO MR R. HEAI.D, A largo number of friends of Mr Ralph Heald assembled in St. John's Hall on Monday night to wish him au ■ rovoir on his departure from Ohukune j .for Otaki. j During the evening Mr Heald was , presented with a handsome travelling | The Mayor (Mr G. Goldfinch) in j making the presentation, referred to I the general esteem in which the guest 1 of the evening was held by all with j whom he came in contact, referring j particularly to the interest which Mr Heald always took in local affairs, and as one of the oldest inhabitants of the I town, having a sash and door factory . there in the earliest days, he would always be looked upon as one of the pion- , eers who helped to build up the town to what it has become. Knotring many of the vicissitudes and trials of life in the backbloeks, and having come successfully through it all. he could be complimented upon the independent position he had attained. He would wish, on behalf of the many friends of Mr Heald, the success ho deserved, and in regretting having to lose him as a citizen. ho was confident that what Ohakune’s loss would be Otaki’s gain. Other speakers endorsed the remarks of the Mayor. Mr Heald suitably replied. During the evening several musical items were Tendered, and dancing kept up till a late hour, the evening proving a most enjoyable one. We were married in haste in the morning, We were sorry and sad by noon, But it all came right at seven that night When we started our honeymoon. Tho’ Matilda is somewhat officious.
