At Otaki there were two junior matches, the first being pluved between Otaki and T’araparaumu, and the second between Old Boys and To Hero. The four teams were sanguine of victory, and over eagerness on the part of players often spoiled play. The Otaki-Cnraparaumu contest was a good one. but for the first half the visitors failed to play up to expectations, but despite this Otaki only crossed the line on one occasion. By fust following up an opening was made and Subritzky sent the bull to Araputa, who smartly scored. The kick at goal proved futile. The second half was more interesting than the preceding one. and the visitors put more dash into their play. In consequence the ball traversed the field, first in one half then the Other, until Subritzky scored a good try. Tahiwi failed to convert, o—o. Then came a reverse. The visitors dashed along the field, and Green getting possession made a fine run and scored a clever try. Clothier nicely converted, o—s. Smith, Maclean, and Clothier were tire pick of the visitors. i The second contest, Old Boys v. 'I e i Horo. was not so interesting as both * teams played below expectations. The loeaN. however, showed the best know- ]

ledge of flip game, and many of their .forward rushes ■were good ones, but the backs failed to make much showing. Several backs lacked judgment and kicked whore a passing rush should have been initiated, but on the other hand their taking and kicking was much above tin* average. Te Horo put ia some very fine rushes, but the back* had but little opportunity to show t" advantage, due to the opposing forwards being very aggressive. The only score of the game was a smart try scored by Hakaraia. who made the most of an opening. Oiddens failed to convert. -Mr Davis was referee. For Old Boys King put in solid work behind the scrum, while Bowden was often seen to great advantage. The forwards were good. The Te Iloro backs were reliable, while the forwards played well, hut at times lacked ginger. The Otaki-Te Iloro school boy match, played at Otnki, was won by the former. Mr “Bob” Nikora was referee. The sum of £3 12s was taken at the gates at Otnki on Saturday. In the match Old Boys v. To .Horo I third-grade) at Te Horo play was Into starting on account of Old Bovs ! failing to arrive to time. On resuming Old Boys Mere again on the defensive, and continued so till call of time. I . the sec-, oud half nine points were added, thus making 21—0. Otaki showed lack of combination. Cootes was the best forward. and O 'Gradv the pick of the backs. Te Horo players were fair, and with little more coaching by the team's coach (Gobo) will prove a hard team to beat. A. Day and F. Morgan were in the limelight on several occa-

si'ons, while W. Marino and R. Windlcy were good among the backs, Mr We- i lupeihana was referee. 1 Hui Mfti thirds met the Training ‘ farm on Saturday on Hui Mai ground. Kuku, i : was made willing from start to -tinish. 1 There was little to decide from in the ; two teams.
