FARM NOTES.
The Greytown cheese factory has switched over to butter-making. Growers of mangolds at Aliikouku (Wairarapa) expect to harvest up to Tt! tons per acre this sea.-on. The line grading record put up by the lower Hawke's Hay dairy factories this year is said to be due to the excellent climate, judicious feeding, and the careful handling of the milk by experienced managers. Reports from the South are to the effect that the rabbits are very bad this year. Several mild winters following one another have allowed them to multiply very rapidly, and tin- floods in the mam rivers, which take a heavy toll as a rule, have not been so freepieut as in recent years. For the season 1020-21, the Ldendale Dairy Factory Co. (Otago) paid out to suppliers almost 2s per lb of butterfat. The complete return--, showed that this v.as in excess of the amount warranted, and supplier- arc being called on to make a refund, which it is proposed to deduct from the current season's payment. * A debit balance of £16.290 is shown in the New Zealand National Dairy Association's profit and loss account for the year ended April 2'J. Practically the whole of the loss has been made on benzine and canvas for horse and cow cover-, very large stocks of which were held at the close, of the last financial year. Farmer? in Kangifikei are getting -airly log shipments of chaff away, but the demand for it is not as keen as growers would like. The mildness of the weather and the great growth of grass will probably make the demand for chaff less than usual, unless the district strike.- exceedingly bad weather a little later on.
