The amended Rugby rule, regarding kicking into touch, was put into force at Wellington on Saturday. A simple interpretation of the rule is as follows: When the ball lands out of bounds on the full, from a kick other than a penalty. from beyond twenty-five yards of I tlie kicker’s goal-line, the opposing side shall firing it out at a spot opposite where the kicker was when he kicked the ball. Anyone inside his own twen-ty-live may kick the ball out of bounds; or a player can kick out of bounds from any part of the field, if the ball lobs inside the field before going out.
A meeting of the Rugby Uniop was hold last night, when a deputation from Shannon, headed by the Mayor (Mr Murdoch) asked that disqualification be lifted from the Shannon ground. This was granted provided the Shannon Club made a public retraction of the .statement that the senior and third-grade teams refused to play last Saturday as a protest against the Union's decision. The disqualification of the junior team is to stand till after the Court proceedings. The ?>layor promised that all offenders at Shannon would be brought to book, and that a subscription list would be opened in Shannon to help fbe injured referee fMr Claridge) on account of his temporary unemployment. Mr Stan Parker, of Otaki, was appointed junior selector for the southern end, and Mr Williams, of Foxton, for the northern end. The application for reinstatements of if. Hakaraia from .-enior to junior and A. Wallace from junior to third-grade, were refused. There will be no matches next Saturday, but several Clubs will take part in the tournament to be held at Palmerston North. It has been decided to play two rounds for the championship, the second round to commence on Saturday I week.
