THE WAIKIKI HAWAIINS

■The Taumarunui Press says oi j Thursday's appearance of the above entertainers, who are billed to appear j at the Otaki theatre:—-‘-But for the tael that there was rather a cool breeze blowing round their ankles, the audience at the entertainment in i the Theatre Royal last night, might I quite easily have imagined them- i selves transported to the magic i shores ol Hawaii. The atmosphere ' created by the Waikiki Hawaiian® j was essentially that of Honolulu and j Waikiki, and those who have visited 1 these fascinating parts of the world : lelt again all the warmth and charm of the Islands of the Pacific. The j theatre was packed, and it is quite j safe to say that no other company, with the exception of the Diggers, has received such a spontaneous we!- , come in Tamnarunut. The playing ol the sweet-toned native ukeleles and guitars revealed unusual skill, ’.he ] handling of the instruments zeing i very clever. 1 Miss A. Ueata has a sweet and com- | pelting voice, while her natural and easy manner compelled one to listen. ! As instrumentalists, the company was best heard in the kohola march, while the several native glees ami group songs Indicated the nature of the native in liis own land. The hula hula, similar to the Maori haka. and the contortionate dancing by Miss Lilliokalani, in native costume, fascinated ■ everyone. The entertainment was of a. distinctly novel character. and was bright from start to finish. The Hatvaiians will meet with success wherever they go.”
