' be very great, and in am ..a.se when ; the suggested post priinarj uduca- . lion a I course cuiues into force at, out | schools, with Levin an the natural centre on this coast, a nam at about d.'i') p.m. would be ;jn absolute necessity lor pupil.- from Kopu'atoa and other northern stations. The Institute a.sked the Council to support the pioposal in a communication to the Hailway Department. Cr. McLeavey: A very good idea. Cr. Harkness agreed, and pointed out there was no "means of getting ! o the north end ol the county in the afternoons, and one had to wait ti'l the evening tram. The school children from the northern stations were verv inadequately served by the afternoon train service, and he supported the proposed change. The chairman 'Cr. Monk reminded councillors that me trams were run to suit the majority of the people as a rule, in this in=tance the school children wen not the only ones to be considered. Cr. Ryder emphasised that the proposed change would be a great convenience in another way. The present slow train getting to Levin a: 1.30 left Wellington a little after the c-rcpress. If i; were delayed two hour?. it tvould be suitable 'ot people doing business in Wellington to get back home at a convenient hour. Cr Harkness moved that Council support the proposal. This was carried unanimously. Cr. Ryder; Make the motion as strong as possible.' Mr Chairman. A copy of the motion is to be sent to Mr Newman. JJ.P.. Mr Field, M.P.. the Minister of Railways, and Genera' Manager of Railways.
