HOSPITAL LEVY.

ONE-SEVENTH OF THE BATES

The Palmerston North Hospital Board levies upon the Manawatu County Council for one-seventh of that body’s total rates. This year the County Council is asked to pay over £2OOO to the Hospital Board. The chairman of the County Council (Sir fas. Wilson), speaking at the Council meeting, suggested that the Council should strike a special rate to meet, the hospital levy, instead of taking the money out of the general account. If the Council agreed to this innovation the ratepayers would bo able to see just how much the hospital levy cost. The special rate would be 3-16ths oi a penny.

The Council agreed, without debate to strike a special hospital rate.
