£634 10 0 A deputation consisting of the Bev. Petrie, Messrs Brandon and TCicolson waited on the committee as representing the Library committee. Mr Brandon pointed out that the subsidy from ihe Government had been dropped and that it was desirous that the library should be put on a proper basis. He therefore thought if the library was removed to the rest jooort site it would recoive better support, also that the duties of librarian and euatodian eould bo combined. A suitable building would cost £4OO to £SOO, and the sum of £3OO had been promised for the present building. The main question, he said, was whether th* Resort Commit toe would allow the building to be removed on its site. In answer to questions he pointed out that the library committee would bear all expense of removal aud erection, suggested that the gates to the grounds be closed between 5 and 6. and had no doubt that at a later date the Committee would hand over the control of th* site to the Borough Council. The Rev. Petrie suggested that a small committee be ect up by the Rest Resort committee to discuss the matter with representatives of the library committee.' After the deputation withdrew the East Resort Committee decided to turn down the proposal. It was decided to hold a world eg bee to plant trees ou Saturday next, and to invite residents to take part.
