OLD BOYS v. OTAKI.
This match—a championship fixture —will be played on tho domain on Saturday. and a fast and interesting game should result. Both sides are in good playing fettle, and the game, no doubt, will be fought out in a sportsmanlike spirit. It is hoped that the general public will attend and give support, and at the same time give every assistance for a good, clean game. The Union, now on a firm footing, is desirous of promoting sport, and it behoves all to assist them. Last season we had » certain amount of ill-feeling which it is hoped has now boen sunk for all time.
A leading football enthusiast, who witaeesed the Paraparaumu-Otaki match on Saturday, called on tho writer, and took excepting to the remark* made by tho Chairman at the Otaki meeting on Saturday night. He considers the referee in question was quite capable of controlling the match, was perfectly fair, and did his be3t. Ike game,' he admits was fast, and the referee, occasionally, was behind. Apart from this he states Mr Udy gave a good exhibition.
Now that the Union has full control of the Otaki domain it intends to place football on a better footing than pTevionsly. and expects to be supported by local sports. The Union has played matches at a loss here, but if supported Otaki will see several important Matches during the season. In view of this Otaki should be out to help the Union and thus help sport.
