ENQUIRIES TO BE MADE. At thev Otaki Borough Council meeting on Wednesday night a letter was Tead from Sister Lewis, who was instrumental in raising sufficient money in Otaki and district for the purchase of an ambulance which eventually did splendid work in the war zone. Sister Lewis pointed put thht the ambulance had been taken to Palmerston, and that it would now probably be sold. If so, she contended, the money secured should be given to Otaki and utilised for building a maternity ward at lie hospital. It was pointed out that'the suggt.s tion was favored by Dr. Valentine, and that if a ward was erected it would carry a subsidy of 2-is in. the £. His Worship the Mayor (Mr Brandon) stated that it w-as understood that the ambulance was too big for Otaki, that it was to be used in Palmerston, and a smaller one sent here in its place. This ambulance had never arrived. Dr. Valentine, he added, considered Otakr should have the benefit of the money. The sum raised, he understood, was in the region.-of £7OO, and he suggested that a letter be sent to the Palmerston N. Hospital Board asking what action that fepdy intended to take. i-fßh topjmeßttrt mi MF&a*
