After'the championships at Otaki onSaturday,' delegates _from tie various ' clubs, met to discuss the proposal to form a cantre in the Manawatu district. -Mr J. O'Sullivan, of the Wellington Centre, who occupied the ehai%

expressed the opinion that it would be much better for Manawatu" to form a sub-centre under the jurisdiction of the Wellington body. If this proposal proved a success then in, say, two years a centre could be organised. He assured those present that his association was in absolute accord with the proposal, Mr Turnbull (Manawatu) said that j it had been the idea to form a centre, | but after hearing Mr O'Sullivan's re-| marks lie had come to the conclusion that it would serve the interests of ' athletics generally if they formed a sub-centre in the meantime. It was i the intention of the Wairarapa clubs to form a sub-centre, and should these proposals materialise, the country clubs would be in a much better position to ' compete against Wellington at the championships. After a good deal of discussion, in which various opinions were expressed as (0 the advisability of organising a Manawatu sub-centre, Mr O'Sullivan said that he would place the views of the delegates before the Wellington centre, which would then he in a posi- ' tion to judge whether or not it wns in the interests of athletics to carry out the proposal. i

NOTES. The refreshment booth, under the supervision of Mr W. H. Reynolds did good business, and credit is due for the wcy in which he and his staff catered for the public. The judges—Dr. Sharp, Messrs Podovjn and Simcox (2) —had some close finishes to decide, but their decisions were never questioned. Messrs Noble and O'Sullivan gave satisfaction as starters, and Messrs Williams, Hart «wul Procter were reliable time-keepers. Mr Ayre ably assisted Mr Irving in his secretarial duties, while Messrs Norgrove and Kilmister gave valuable assistance at tho gates.

Mr A. W. Broadway gave no less than eighty bunches of violets for sale. They sold well aud as a result over £2 will bo added to the Club's funds.

Among the visitors to the sports was Mr W. H. Field. M.P. The medals supplied by our local jeweller, Mr E. Looser, were fully admired, and all winners were well satisfied. The trophies were certainly good ones yet the cost to the Club was light. The distribution of prizes and the shield, which wns easily won by Wairarapa, was made by Mr O 'Sullivan, n keen Wellington sport. In handing over the shield he congratulated the Wairarapa men on their win. Mr Bradbury suitably acknowledged tho gift. Cheers vere given for competitors and the Club.
