LOCAL ARID GENERAL.
There will be no publication of the “Mail” on Good Friday or Easter Monday, but there will be an issue on So' urday.
Headers of the “Mail” are notified that subscriptions in advance for the current quarter are due. By paying in advance Is on the quarter’s subscription may be saved, and all who wish to take advantage of this concession should do so before the end of this month.
A family of six were on Monday taken from Waikanae to the Wellington Receiving Home.
All offertories throughout the Otnki parochial district ou Sunday next will be handed to the Vicar.
The Maori Church com—: tC c accept with thanks a donation of £1 from Mr Swabey, and £2 10s from Mrs E. A. Cockrell.
The next euchre tournament in connection with the rest resort site will be held on Easter Monday night as advertised.
Further improvements are being carried out at the Native cemetery grounds, and a concrete path is now to be put down.
Advice is given to shop in Otaki, and thus support local business people who are giving their staffs a chance to enjoy the Easter holidays.
Mr H. Cockrell advises customers to shop early on Thursday so as to allow other residents to take advantage of his low prices later in the evening. Mr Cockrell’s shop will be open till S p.m. It is probable that a school for junior children, taking them through the primary course as far as the third or fourth standard, will be started in Otaki.
Great preparations are being made for the Native concert, to he held on the 20th. First-class talent has been secured, while leading local performers will be greatly in evidence. A dance will follow.
Visitors to the sports at Otaki on Saturday will be well catered for, it being decided to have a liberal supply of refreshments, cigarettes, etc., on the ground. Mr W. H. Reynolds will be in charge.
Services will be held at the Anglican Church on Good Friday at S a.m., 11 a.m.. .3 p.m., and 7 p.m. Offertories will be given to the Russian Famine Fund. Services will also be held at Tc Horo and Manakau.
The Hautere Defence Rifle Club will hold a dance in the Te Horo Hall on Easter Monday night, and a large gathering is expected. Arrangements are complete, and an enjoyable time is assured.
Mr A. F. Jauncey, of Otaki. has been approached by a syndicate who is anxious to purchase the Otaki theatre. So pleased is Mr .lauucey with the patronage accorded- him, as well as friendship extended him, that he immediately turned the proposal down.
Church services for the Anglican Church for Holy Week are advertised. On Good Friday there will be a children’s service at 3, and evensong at 7. when Mrs R. Fielding will sing a solo. On Easter Day Miss EldertOn will be the soloist.

Rue Crichton "iil appear in some of his famous “Girl Impersonations.” Among his numbers will be “Busy Bee,” Waltz Me,” and an original impression of the famous “Wild Thyme” duet.
Larrikinism was rife in Otaki on Monday night, and two young men, Power und Pari Rikihnna were yesterday charged before Messrs Bills and Williams, J’s.P., with disorderly conduct. After a severe reprimand each was fined £2 2s. Constable Satherley states that he is determined to deal with larrikinism, and it is hoped this will act as a warning.
A special feature for the coming grand Maori concert will be Miss Teresa McEnroe, of Wellington. Mis* McEnroe is well-known throughout the whole Dominion as a leading soprano singer, anti, besides, has won considerable praise abroad. Mrs McDonald, of Levin, Mrs Pringle, of Palmerston North, and Mrs R. M. D'Ath. the district’s leading vocalist, will also take part. The items by those performers alone will be well worth the price of admission.
Mr Thos. W. Garth, late of the Pensions Department, Wellington, has taken over the Railway Hotel. If hi; i management of the hotel is in keeping with his popularity in the city which he has just left, the “Railway’s” trade should go ahead with leaps and bounds. Mr Garth was highly respected by everyone in Wellington who had the pleasure of his acquaintance, end it will not be the fault of that gentleman and his estimable wife if Otaki patrons are not made to feel at home. It is Mr and Mrs Garth’s,, policy to give every intention to visitors, keep a first-class table, and foster and extend the Railway Hotel’s reputation as one of the best in the Manawatu district.

The Otaki Brass Band will play at the Sanatorium at 2.30 on Sunday afternoon. Two farmers from Paekakariki, William Mackay-and Francis Richard Holton, were litigants in a case in the Supreme Court, before His Honour Mr Justice Hosking, yesterday. Considerable evidence was taken, after which the Court adjourned till to-day. A hat is advertised as having been found. Geese and turkeys are advertised for sale. Rata firewood at £2 12s (id per cord is advertised for sale. A veil is advertised as having been lost. Train arrangements for the Easter holidays are advertised. Mr A. E. Minton has a furnished cottage at Raugiuru to let. Mr Lowry advertises that he has secured the latest songs, novels, and records.
