CHAMBER OF COMMERCE’S PROTEST. Wanganui, April 6. The president of the Chamber of Commerce, Mr William Brown, has dispatched the following telegram to the Premier: “The Wanganui -Chamber of Commerce calls , upon Cabinet seriously to consider the position resulting from the P. and T. Officers’ ballot favouring amalgamation with the Alliance of Labour, and strongly recommends trie Government-to refuse recognition to _ such alliance, which would create a serious and anomalous position both for the Government and the community.” The decision of the Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association to affiliate with the Alliance of Labour has attracted a great deal of attention. The Prime Minister said yesterday that he believed the members'-who voted for affiliation had made “a very serious mistake.’-’ Business men are disposed to regard with strong disapproval the proposed linking of the Postal and Telegraph service with an industrial organisation that they beiieve to be controlled b\ —the Labour extremists. A Dominion reporter was informed yesterday that a split in the association is assured.-, Many of the 1973, members who voted against affiliation, are not prepared .to remain in an \Qvganisatiorr that is connected with the Labour extremists, and some of them have already sent'in their resigna-i lions. A meeting of postal and telegraph officers opposed to affiliation is, being arranged, -and the-outcome isj expected to be the formation of a new i association. j
