A DARING BURGLARY.
IH PALMERSTON NORTH. A doling burglary was committed in Palmerston 'North during . Wednesday night. When the bar of the Commercial Hotel wag opened yesterday morning, it was discovered that a cash register, valued at about £7O, and containing £5 or £6 in cash, had been removed |rom the counter. Several bottles of spirits were also missed from the bar shelves. How an entrance to the bar was effected is a matter of pure speculation, though it is surmised that the' front door was unbolted after it had been locked. The licensee, on returning to tho hotel from an entertainment about 10 o’clock, noticed two strange men in a room. He asked them if they had booked up for the night, and they answered in the affirmative. It was discovered yesterday morning that they had not slept on the premises. It is thought that the cash register, after being removed, was placed in a vehicle of some description and Caxiiad off, as no trace of if could be found about the' hotel. The police 3fjp» advised of the burglary, and yes- * i&rday detained two men who were suspected of being concerned in the mat* ter. These, however, were subseqwftl* iy released, aud no arrests have sis 29 been made.
