The present Pope is the first who lias specifically taken exception to women's dress, though former Pontiffs have several times exhorted women to return to more modest ways. His Holiness pins Xi. began the campaign during the reception of the Roman aristocracy." when he invited the women'of the nobility to join in a WIS* ado against certain present fushjors. which he describes as scandalous, ar.d indecorous.
